The 30-second version
We collect your email when you sign up. We log your searches so SNAG can show your history and improve ranking. We don't sell your data, ever. You can delete your account and data any time. If you ask, we'll send you everything we have on you within 30 days.
What SNAG never does
We don't sell your data. We don't share it with advertisers for targeting. We don't keep it longer than we need. We don't access your messages, contacts, or anything outside of SNAG.
Who we are
SNAG is operated by Ed Grover, a sole trader based in the United Kingdom, trading as "SNAG". For all data-protection purposes, Ed Grover is the data controller under UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.
SNAG is in the process of being incorporated as a UK limited company. Once incorporated, this policy will be updated to reflect the new legal entity — your data, rights and responsibilities under the policy won't change.
You can reach our team at hello@get-snag.com for any privacy-related question, including subject access requests, deletion requests, or to complain to the data controller.
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your personal data, you have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
What data we collect
When you use SNAG without signing up
- Your search queries (the text you type)
- Approximate location (country level only, e.g. "UK")
- Basic device info (browser type, screen size)
- A daily counter to enforce the 3-free-snags-a-day limit
When you sign up for an account
- Your email address
- Your name (or whatever display name you give us)
- Your tier (Free, Premium, Pro)
- Your member number (sequential, never recycled)
- A founder badge if you qualify (★ FOUNDER or ★ OG)
- Your search history while signed in
- Snags you've shared, saved, or nominated for Hall of Snags
- Referrals you've sent or received (for share-to-earn credits)
Age verification (coming soon)
SNAG does not currently process any age verification data. During the launch period, age-restricted (18+) products are paused and don't appear in results — no verification is needed because no verified-only content is shown.
When real age verification launches (via a regulated identity provider), this policy will be updated to describe what data we share with them and how it's handled. We'll never see or store your ID document — only a yes/no age flag.
If you subscribe to Premium or Pro
Payment is processed by Stripe. We never see your card number. Stripe gives us:
- Confirmation that you paid
- Your subscription status (active, cancelled, etc)
- The last 4 digits of your card (for showing in your account settings)
If you cancel, we keep your subscription history for accounting and tax purposes (UK law requires 6 years).
How we use it
We use your data for these specific purposes:
- To make SNAG work — your search runs against our backend and returns results
- To enforce limits — we count daily searches against your tier's cap
- To improve ranking — we analyse anonymous patterns (e.g. "queries about white sneakers tend to get the best results when…") to refine how SNAG ranks products. Your individual searches are not used to build a profile of you.
- To communicate with you — magic link emails, password resets, billing confirmations, occasional product updates (which you can opt out of)
- To prevent abuse — we detect and block bot traffic, fake accounts, and credit gaming on share-to-earn
Who we share it with
We share data only with these third parties, only as needed to run SNAG:
- Anthropic — runs Claude, the AI model. Your search query is sent to Claude for parsing. Anthropic doesn't keep it for training.
- Serper — fetches product data from UK retailers. Your parsed search query goes to Serper.
- Supabase — stores your account data (email, member number, history). Hosted in Ireland (EU region).
- Vercel — runs the backend API. Hosted in London.
- Stripe — payment processing for Premium/Pro subscriptions.
- Resend — sends magic link and verification emails.
- Plausible — privacy-friendly analytics. No cookies, no personal data, no cross-site tracking.
Once real age verification launches, we'll add the verification provider to this list and update the policy first. We never share or sell your data to advertisers, data brokers, or anyone else not on this list.
Cookies
SNAG uses cookies and localStorage. Some are strictly necessary; others require your consent. You can change your choices at any time via the Cookie settings link in the footer.
Cookie categories we use
- Necessary — login session, security tokens, fraud prevention. These keep SNAG working and don't require consent under UK GDPR.
- Functional — remembers your daily snag count, tier, recent searches, and small preferences via localStorage on your device. Improves your experience but the site works without them.
- Analytics — anonymous usage data that helps us understand how SNAG is used so we can improve it. We don't currently load analytics, but if/when we do, we'll only load them with your consent.
- Marketing — advertising cookies that may be set by third parties. SNAG doesn't currently use these.
We don't share cookies with Facebook, Google Ads, or any ad network. We don't sell consent data. Your choices are stored in your browser for 12 months, after which we'll ask you again.
Affiliate disclosure
SNAG earns affiliate commission when you click through to a retailer and make a purchase. This is how we keep the free tier free.
The crucial bit: affiliate commission has zero impact on ranking. We rank by fit, price, reviews, trust, delivery, and stock — not by which retailer pays us more. A retailer that pays nothing can outrank one that pays generously, if the product is a better match for what you asked.
We're regulated by the UK CAP Code on affiliate marketing — clear labelling, no hidden incentives.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have these rights, all of which we honour:
- Access — ask us what data we hold on you, we'll send it within 30 days
- Rectification — ask us to correct anything wrong
- Erasure — ask us to delete your account and data ("right to be forgotten")
- Portability — ask for your data in a machine-readable format
- Objection — opt out of marketing emails any time
- Restriction — ask us to pause processing while we sort something out
To exercise any of these: email privacy@get-snag.com.
If we don't resolve your concern, you can complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
How long we keep it
- Account data — for as long as your account exists, plus 30 days after deletion
- Search history — 90 days, or until you clear it manually
- Payment records — 6 years (UK tax law)
- Email logs — 12 months (for deliverability troubleshooting)
- Anonymous analytics — 24 months
